Golden Week

It should really be called "a couple of long weekends" because right in the middle were two days of work. Still, it is lovely to be able to take my time over breakfast, so where I need to go without worrying I'm going to cycle over a little person in a yellow hat (elementary school kids here wear yellow hats when they go to school to stop them getting run over. It would be more useful to teach them how to walk in a straight line, not weave all over the place when people are trying to go round them)
So what have I done with my glorious vacation? Not so much, I mean, I just got back from a trip so I'm happy to stay here and avoid the insane crowds whereever I go.
I've been to dinner at a friend's place, her husband was trying a new recipe and I think I'm their adopted spinster. Then, I went out to the new Italian in town with my old roommates, where we were slightly confused by the lack of pizza on the menu, which probably shows how little we know about Italian food.
This morning, I braved the shopping centre and came home the proud owner of a Hoover and an ironing board. Not everyone's idea of a successful shopping trip, I grant you, but there you go. I was inspired by a conversation on Facebook which started with my friends and I reminiscing about our year abroad in France and various shenanigans and ended with a discussion of how to fix a Dyson when you've accidentally hoovered up the toggle thing from the drawstring on your partner's trousers. Yeah, times have changed.
Tomorrow, I'm off to a kite flying festival, and Sunday, I'm going for a run and cleaning the apartment with the new Hoover. Among all that, I'm plugging on with my Master's, although I've given up for today, there's a limit to how much  can absorb.
So, what have you fine people been up to this holiday?

  2. Sounds good. My sister had a mixed up week too - uni on Mon and Tues and the rest of the week off. We figured it's not worth leaving town on account of the crowds.

  3. To call this year's Golden Week a washout, would be an understatement. For once, I went nowhere, except for a day trip up to Gunma to see lovely Azaleas. But the relatively uncrowded trains were nice. Enjoy your last sunny weekend!

  4. Though I hate to admit it, sometimes my most exciting purchases are those of the domestic type. Your ironing board is probably miraculous! And just seeing the word "Dyson" makes me drool. I love my Shark Navigator, but I would consider doing questionable things to get a Dyson!
